Yes, I hate the title.
Unfortunately, it looks like the sequel really is going to happen now. Evil or Very Mad
Hopefully it will just have a short run in London and that will be it. I just hope none of the shows I love have to close to make room for it...London seems a little short of theatres at the moment. Neutral

Some new stuff... The sequel has a wiki page - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantom:_Love_Never_Dies and there's a little video of Emmy Rossum talking about it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=on1gS578ygE

A theatre company from Portugal is making their own sequel, it's called 'The Phantom of Paris'.

That does sound very interesting!
Here is all the English text I could find on the site.
Jacarandá Edições Artisticas, Lda. Portugal is proud and delighted to announce the completion of the new musical "The Phantom of Paris", a sequel to the legendary novel by Gaston Leroux. No less a personality than the renowned and internationally acclaimed German film composer Peer Raben (R.W. Fassbinder, LIfetime Achievement Award) has penned the score to this musical. Peer Raben was working on this exceptional musical until just before his sudden death on 21 January 2007. In his own truly distinctive manner, he developed a dramaturgy for the musical packet with compositions that are bound to thrill critics and audiences alike. "Without music emotion would lack a voice" Peer Raben

I notice its a sequel to the Leroux novel, rather than a sequel to the ALW musical, but it doesn't mention a plot. (unless I'm missing something or it says it in another language Razz )

Major point for creators then. But another interesting thing... Some people say that it is a mistification, as that company does not exist.

It does seem a little strange. It wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't real, or if it is real, if it never happens.
The poster doesn't look very professional, but I do like it. Smile

Love Never Dies casting call!
Seeking—
Phantom: male, 35-40, Caucasian, as mysterious as ever, but now enjoys the seeming freedom to walk among "the normal" as an entrepreneur in Coney Island thanks to his new surroundings and the private assistance of old supporters, has achieved a place of power and success over the past 10 years, but is haunted by a creative passion that once filled his heart, must possess effortless gravitas and sexuality, powerful rock tenor singing voice, must be able to sing to top B flat, LEAD;
Christine: female, mid-to-late 20s, Caucasian, now a semi-retired opera superstar and a mother, still gorgeous, iconic, elegant, every inch a star, has a curious echo of sadness and distance about her, she must possess an equal blend of technical superiority and raw emotionality, glorious soprano singing voice, must be able to sing to top B flat, LEAD;
Raoul: male, 35-40, Caucasian, Christine's husband, now a functioning and stoic alcoholic with more than a glimmer of his previous self as an affluent and handsome aristocrat, a beauty on the turn, must possess domineering gravitas and sexuality, powerful tenor singing voice, with an instinct for lyricism, must be able to sing effortlessly to A flat;
Meg: female, mid-to-late 20s, Madame Giry's daughter, Coney Island fairground star, gothic, mystical, unusual, sweet, charming, fun, has a broken baby-doll vulnerability, edge, sexiness, and heart of steel, strong mezzo soprano singing voice, spunky voice, preferably with a raspy quality, up to top F sharp (top line, treble clef), must be able to belt as well as sing with a lyrical ability when in balladic mode;
Madame Giry: female, 40-early 50s, Caucasian, intent on making things happen for her and her daughter Meg while having attained the position of business manager to the Phantom, thus feels entitled to prominence and distinction, will make sure that nothing or no one gets in her way, has much pent-up aggression, like a compressed Piaf, solid contralto singing voice, character voice up to D within treble clef;
Gustave: boy, 10-12, Caucasian, seeking child singer-actor to play Christine's son, must have an ethereal and other-worldly essence, think Tim Burton-esque or Britten's "Turn of the Screw," an innocent beauty, with an off-kilter attractiveness and character, preferably small in stature, preferably blond, strong boyish voice up to top F sharp, must have good musical instincts and a keen sense of pitch.

http://www.playbill.com/jobs/find/job_detail/25309.html and job offer. Includes opening date and other informations. Rehearsals in London, try-outs in Toronto and premiere on Broadway. Lovely. It also seems that Webber didn't make any crazy changes in music style.

I have a bunch of info on this, and how it is not longer a rumor, but a fact.
However, I've been away for so long, the links etc. evade me.

I'll post some info soon enough
but I still think this idea
is ridiculous!
