Apparently, ALW is still considering, rather strongly, the sequel. His away message for his website is "off to work on POTO sequel". His blogs aso reveal renewed interest in it...
Apparently he is not going to ignore Master and Margeurite, but rather put it on a back burner. And he may not close the current POTO showings at all now!

Well I got info on it.the squal is called phantom of manhatten based on the book by Fredrik Forsyth. It is going to happen so it is not much of a rumor any more. There is also the fact that ya alot of ppl don't want it to occure (No kidding). But of course this is webber and even though the book is not well written it is going to happen anyways. If any one has read the book you will understand my pain.Any more info and rumors you can get off of www.phantomoftheopera.com.

Yeah, we know all of that already, due to ALW's blog. I don't care how good anyone thinks ALW can make that, anything where

is not a good idea in my opinion.

Well, according to ALW in an October blog entry, his cat jumped onto his keyboard and deleted the ENTIRE score for the show!

We may be in luck, after all, hahah.

If only he would just abandon the project altogether. But, he says, even though the info is not able to be retrieved, he is rewriting it from memory.

Newest Update on the sequel...

The WORST thing I have heard thus far.

ALW is considering Gerard Butler as the star for the musical sequel on stage. What is this world coming to?

Well, it would get people in to see it! Which is a bad thing.

If it does reach the West End stage I'm hoping it will last just a couple of weeks and then flop spectacularly.
I know that wouldn't be a good thing for the cast and crew, but it would be a very good thing for Phantom (the original).

I've said Red Death what I think about whole thing. Webber reminds me Erik destroying Don Juan Triumphant score. Just to show that he can. I would not be surprised if he'd choose cast with G. Butler, K. Jenkins...

look i love gerry ok, he did a steller job in the movie, alw wanted to have the orginal cast but if they did they would be really old and i think steve burton who played raoul died. any way he would do great but movie actors some times are not as strong as live theatre actors but he might might make a good one but i think he will be better in the movies then in live theatre

They filmed a lot of the musica film with the OLC/OBC back in the 80s but the project failed due to no director.

I liked Gerry in the movie, actually, so, whether or not he ruined the movie is a matter of opinion. He was good with the rest of the cast. I am glad they didn't chose to use Michael Crawford in that role. It would be like Emmy in love with a Grandfather Phantom... Weird.

He worked in the film cast, but I do not think he would work at all on stage.

I read the artical. Um no offence "Once upon another time" sounds like a slash phanfiction. I'm sorry the more I hear about the continuation of POTO the more this would make me hack. If I do see this I hope giving the musical a chance would not ruin my love for phantom.Mad

This gets worse and worse. News about it is everywhere.
Just imagine what would happen. Hundreds of people go to the thatre- not only out of curiousity to see a Phantom sequel, but thousands of squealing little Gerry fan girls who care nothing about the musical. ALW has lost his mind, as this picture clearly shows:

"As for "Phantom . . . Once Upon Another Time": It's set in 1906
in Coney Island. The Phantom, having fled Paris, is running a freak
show. At night, he crawls into his lair and makes love to an automaton
that looks like Christine.

Christine, meanwhile, has become a
famous opera singer. But she's fallen on hard times because her
husband, Raoul, has squandered their fortune. So she's accepted a
high-paying gig from a mysterious impresario to open a new amusement
park. On her first night in New York, she draws back the curtain in her
hotel suite and comes face to face with her new employer - flash of
lightning, crash of chords - the Phantom!

Christine has a child,
Gustave, but is his father Raoul or the Phantom? I can't tell you
because no one's seen the second act yet.

But I can tell you that Raoul, who was so handsome in "The Phantom," is now a drunken wreck."

I've just found it... OMG. Shocked Shocked

I just heard all that about the sequel yesterday.

Man, I know we've all dreamt of a Phantom sequel, but I don't think we really wanted to see one made. I don't know how to explain it. I kinda knew if there were ever a sequel, it would be a let down, just because nothing could satisfy everyone. It's like when books are made into movies. The script writers and directors try to make one crowd happy, and end up disappointing the majority. I think that especially in this case, they should've just let the original be. This sequel is going to taint the first one.

But I will say this - I have not lost my respect for ALW. He's still written the music to all my most favorite musicals. It's not like he came up with the plot for this, right?

I lost my respect for ALW a while ago. Sad I'm much more of a Sondheim fan now.
I've heard a rumour in a few places that Ramin Karimloo, the current London Phantom, played the Phantom in the workshop of Phantom 2. I'd love to know who workshopped Christine.

Raoul was played by one of the London Raoul understudies, and Meg was played by Rachel Tucker from I'd Do Anything (reality TV show to find a Nancy for the latest West End revival)

It seems like Mr. Webber announced the real title of the sequel. 'Love Never Dies'.
