Erik in Susan Kay's Phantom is MUCH better than POM, in my opinion. Everything about his narrative is sad, whereas POM seems to just be wallowing in self pity and deep-rooted aggression and vengence

I LOVE Susan kay's Erik!!! I also love the ALW stage version's Erik, and the version by yeston/kopit! that version has a completly different spin on the story!! it seams to focus on Erik's lighter side! also, I agree on what was said earlyer about the 2004 movie having sexuality everywhere. it seems like they're making phantom a sex symbol, not a love symbol. stage show is ALOT cooler!!!

I agree, Gerard's Phantom was more sexually-charged than any stage Phantom.
I was just talking about this with my Spanish teacher, oddly, who loved the movie but has never seen the musical. I told her how in MOTN, the Phantom is basically "sexing" Christine up, where as in the play, he is rocking her gently, singing like a lullabye.

Same!
One of my favorite is ALW Erik because he's being sexy IN A WAY but without wearing half-shirts and rubbing anyone too much. I also like Leroux Erik because he's wonderfully insane. Overall though, Kay Erik I think is best because he's a good mix of both. You can picture each Erik in his shoes almost. In fact, I imagined an ALW Erik at some parts when I read it the first time.
