For my birthday on Saturday my dad took me to a couple of the anique stores in town, and one thing I ended up buying was this very intersting book. I wouldn't be surprised if RedDeath owns it, lol.

"From the days of the Silent Film to The Exorcist"

You can imagine Lon Chaney is mentioned several times.

I remembered RedDeath mentioning Nosferatu as one of the best vampires films, but unfortunately the book doesn't have much to say about that paticular movie and has only one picture of it (but it is a very creepy one...). My dad said he's seen a newer movie where the vampires looked very similar to Nosferatu, but I don't remember what he said it was...I'll ask him later. I do agree that they really toned down the "horror" of vampires starting with Bela Lugosi's Dracula (though I've non problem with it, being a wimp, myself).

Oh well, my favorite Vampire movie will always be The Lost Boys! Laughing

It's a great book that I'm sure any horror fan could appreciate.

I have rented that from my local library actually! Laughing Shocked
Along with an encyclopedia on horror films! Very Happy

I hate how vampires are now seen as sex symbols. They were originated as hideously grotesque, reanimated corpses! And they have a strong sexual appeal because they has hypnotic powers. Take the original Bram Stoker's Dracula... He was an ugly old man, who grew younger-but never more attractive- from drinking blood.

I am depressed... I dont have any book stores in my town! Can you believe it! reading is my favorite hobby, and I have travel to another city to get books Rolling Eyes
I hate my life! Laughing

And Lost Boys is good! My mother likes Cory Hains Rolling Eyes

You have no book stores in your town?! Is it just really tiny? Thank goodness for Amazon i guess!

Nosferatu is on my 'to watch' list, along with the Lon Chaney Phantom film!

I think there's only one real bookstore where I live...a Waldenbooks in the mall. There's other places that have small section of popular new books, but that's about it.

I'd love to see Nosferatu but I wouldn't know where to find it.

And semi-off-topic, if anyone is looking for an awesome new book to read, I've started on one called Wildwood Dancing and I absolutely love it, not to mention the beautifully detailed dust jacket it comes in. It a little scary at parts, but it's mostly fantasy.

In my town there are at least 3 big bookshops including a huge Borders that sells just about anything, but we also have loads of small ones too- we must be very lucky here in York!

In neighboring cities, I have Borders, Waldens, and Barnes & Nobles. We also have malls and big outlet/department stores with thousands of books.

Mysteries on Main Street is the closest single shop around here, and I LOVE it
