-_- We all know Christine is utterly confused and I believe even her love for Raoul was forced to stop her feeling from driveing her mad. Seems a little insenstive but thats how I see it.

She was not meant to love Erik at all, I dont believe. I think she felt more pity for him than sexual attraction.

Well later on in the book (for example) she tried to kill herself. That pretty much says it all...
I think her love for Erik was more a secret, distorted and confused love. Raoul was her first love, a childhood sweet heart. She would have felt safer picking him.
Problem with Erik was that he turned mad with love for Christine and then tried to blow up half of Paris... not to mention he killed lots more people. Hmm... she saw the monster not the angel.
