I read in 'The Essential Phantom of the Opera' that in 1988, ALW planned and began filming a POTO movie with the original cast, like they did with Jekyll and Hyde- it was a live performance. They never finished though Shocked

Does anyone know where, if anywhere Crying or Very sad , I can locate this wonderful thing?

It's horribly rare, and very choppy. They have only bits of it pieced together, I believe.

You can find bootlegs, probably, or copies, but, I do not think they released "legal" ones.

They have parts of it in the 2 disc ALW POTO DVD in the feature called "Behind the Mask: The History of the Phantom of the Opera."

There isn't info on the Phantom's past in the 2 disc DVD--just history on the novels and movies, musicals, plays, etc.

And it should be available or able to be ordered at any video retailer

There IS a pro-shot copy of the Broadway production with the original cast in the archives at Lincoln Center. Many productions are preserved on film there. However, to view the videos, one needs to have a legitimate reason such as journalistic or scholarly research. Fans can't just walk in and ask to see them.

ya people would have managed some how to get a copy of it. but people film the stage play all the time. look on youtube you'll find tons of video clips peple have filmed mostly are the tital song and the finial lair scene. but the quality is really bad. Crying or Very sad it is kind of hard to find i found a fianl lair scene with gary as the phantom on his last preformence it takes a while to find them though
