Hehe Heard the same thing.The chandelier falling ya thatsthe inspiration for the novel soIheard.They say that peoople saw a figure or whatever.I think that people were just seeing things or just saying that they did. Who knows. The only people who truly knew are dead.

ya i also heard that peple who worked there a long time ago noticed that food,clothing and canddles had gone missing pepole there described a shady charecter they described him as a phantom because no one sees him exept in the shadows also if you don't know already there realy exsists an underground lybrinth along with a lake so mabey a person realy lived down there at one time no one knows its kind of creepy but cool at the same time so i kind of beleave that the phantom realy did exsist call me crazy but i belive did live at one time

I've always believed that there once was a 'phantom'. What about that entire passage in the begining of the book. "The Opera Ghost really exsited" ect. ect. ect.?

yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay im glad some one else agrees with me i have this book the complete phantom of the opera and it has a section about the opera house but it dose not mention any thing about the real opera ghost but he did exsist at onetime but thats just what i think

Same! I mean Gaston Leroux never claimed that that passage was a fake to build up to the story or anything. If you notice, it's like his writing changes style a little from the "The Opera Ghost exsisted..." passage to the actual story. Just a little.

yes he was i found out that ounce the opera house was complete one of the workers became so attached to it he asked garnier to let him live in the opera house and he hid underground until he died

I think that this was merely artistic liscense, a purely fictional work that he used to set the stage and create an eerie atmosphere for the story.

The same goes for this. There is no actual proof of this other than a legend.
